Think
of a Jamaican tourism ad... Now, regardless of the images that
come to mind, undoubtedly the soundtrack in your head is probably
Bob Marleys "One Love". And whats so remarkable
about that? Well, it wasnt so long ago that reggae was
considered too dangerous for marketers tastes. After all,
reggae is protest music, and political, and Jamaica has seen its
share of political violence... so whats changed? At some point
in the 1980s, the world began to embrace Reggae as culture,
culture became part of the tourist draw, and at the same time,
Jamaicas worst violent episodes seem to have ceased. Ten years
later, "One Love" has become the outright audio logo for
Jamaica.
